Jaguar Stevens

Jaguar Stevens formed when two high school English teachers decided to purge their workday anxieties through rock n’ roll. Steve Bartholomew (Guitar) delivers tempestuous rock riffs and screeching solos, while Caleb Wohlust carries an oddly esoteric yet unhinged vocal performance. Dave Glantz’s primitive and minimalist drum beats accompany mastermind, Charlie Frost (Keyboard), who plays muddy bass on one hand, and bouncing staccato harmonies on the other. The band values originality at all costs, toeing the line between punk rock akin to The Gun Club, folk rock reminiscent of early Neil Young alongside the frenzied, psychedelic rock of The Doors. Colorado fans have made comparisons from Radiohead to Talking Heads. Jaguar Stevens has created a solid body of original songs with an attempt to achieve timelessness. These nerdy teachers, along with the backing band, delight in playing rock’n’roll that helps the audience lose themselves in rock history. Who knows? Perhaps the band can transcend all musical comparisons, achieving a mystic truth…their secret hope: the audience will listen critically, without any kind of ‘teacher agenda’.
